So the other week Fi and I went to see Simian Mobile Disco.
Now, both of us were pretty excited about this gig, but I found it kinda blah. I thought I would recognise more songs, or at least be compelled to dance my socks off.
Instead, I found myself thinking of what to have for lunch the following day.
So I'll blog about the foody good times before and after the gig.
Before the gig, we snacked on limp, cold fries (Fi) and a fish mayo burger (me) at Becker's or Beck's or whatever that chain of coffee shops is called.
My mispronunciation of the fish mayo burger led to the waitress (who Fi reckons looked about 12 years old), busting me as a foreigner and she began to make big gestures to help me understand the words coming out of her mouth.
Any efforts to communicate better are always appreciated, but I felt a little belittled.
Anyways, good burger.
After the gig, we wandered the streets of Ebisu (known for its awesome restaurants), looking for more bites to eat. We went to look at the menu of a place that looked quite nice, but upon seeing that the menu had no prices, apart from a large number at the end, we fled the scene.
Then we came across a small Sri Lankan place called Palette which caught our attention, so we wandered in. No one seemed to be home, so we wandered almost into the kitchen before someone came out.
We started off as the only customers, but then as our food arrived, a family of possible Sri Lankans came in. Usually a good sign.
We ordered some salady thing, but what I remember the most was the deep fried squid/octopus/tentacular bits. They were fragrant with a hint of curry powder and other spices. Crispy and not overcooked. DEEEEELISH!
A good school night out!
