Whenever I try to recall what I wanted to be when I was a little, I usually don't remember anything. I was always quite cynical and never liked any of the options on offer.
But then, upon reading on The Dominion Post (Wellington's local newspaper) that Sigourney Weaver has been/is in Wellington filming her latest movie, I suddenly remembered what, as a child, I wanted to be when I grew up. I wanted to be Sigourney Weaver.
I remember thinking this between intermittent glances at the movie screen while hiding behind a large cushion when my dad took me to a screening of ALIENS back when I was about.. oh, I dunno.. six? seven years old? Dad had forewarned me that the movie was going to be scary, so I brought a cushion with me (back then, my hands weren't big enough to block out the entire screen).
[BELOW] Sigourney in my beloved Cuba Street:
The Dominion Post article is here.
An excerpt from the article:
She is in Wellington filming director James Cameron's Avatar and said she had fallen in love with the city, enjoying being able to travel five minutes to a beach. "It's a little windy but I love it. Everyone I've met is so friendly. It's an absolutely beautiful country."
Sigourney loves Wellington, and I love Wellington. She is the bestest!
I think I still want to be her when I grow up.
