Oh how I love the future as depicted by the seventies.
In the case of the Charlton Heston sci-fi classic Soylent Green, the future looks somewhat like an over-populated version of, well, West Side Story.
Much to my horror, before watching this movie, I was reading a New York Times article about plot twists and it MENTIONED THE ENDING OF SOYLENT GREEN. So that kinda sucked.
I love old-school sci-fi. The disregard for romantic development, blood the same colour as acrylic paint I used in intermediate, the overall creepy feel, the budget special effects, and the FURNITURE (and by that I don't mean the movie's use of the word "furniture").
I'm not the most observant when it comes to spotting anomalies in movie production, but in one scene, a panel is supposed to go from unlit to lit, flashing "Speaking Permitted". What was funny is that instead of rigging up a light to actually do that, it looks like they took two shots of the panel (one in its unlit state, and one in its lit, red "Speaking Permitted" state) and repeatedly showed the two.
Unfortunately, a cord in the bottom left hand corner is placed differently in each shot, so it's pretty obvious what's going on.. Ah, SO CLOSE!
A link to Soylent Green's Wikipedia page.. but it tells you the whole story and ending, so if you want to watch it, don't read the page.

urmm...the plot of Soylent Green is kinda well-known. I remember Dad talking about it when it first came out.
