Bubudzuke (J)

It amazes me how Japanese customs and cultures differ between prefectures.

For example, back in the old days in Kyoto, when someone offers you bubudzuke (the Kyoto name for ochadzuke, a hot tea and rice dish), you would be an idiot to accept it, as it's actually the Kyoto way of saying: "It's time for you to leave.".

Apparently this is no longer an applicable rule, but it's still good to know!

日本の習慣と文化が地方によって違うことがかなり面白いと思う。例えば、昔の京都では「ぶぶづけ」が頂けける時に、「お願いします」と言ったらあかんと聞いていた。「ぶぶづけはいかがですか」の本当の意味は「帰ってください」らしいだ。

この規則はもうなくなったらしいが、やっぱり教えてくれたらよかった！
