A visit to city hall

alien registrationMy visa has been extended until Feb 13, 2005.  Since I'll be in the country longer than 90 days, I made a trip to city hall Wednesday to register myself as an official Alien.

The city hall peeps are ONTO IT.  The guy at the counter looked at my passport, and while tapping at my name with his finger, asked: "Do you remember me?"

I TOTALLY blanked.  Was he a friend of my host mum?  Did we meet recently and have I totally forgotten who he is??

I panicked.  Big time.  "Errr, sorry, I don't remember.."

"I remember you from when you last came to Osaka." he says.

I do a double-take: "Six years ago??  When a whole lot of us came here for our alien registration??"

"Yes that's right," he says.  "A white and dark coloured uniform right.. You lived in Malaysia at the time.."

"Malaysia?  Oh that's right, I had a Malaysian passport at the time, but was living in NZ.  I have since changed to a NZ passport.."

"Oh I see..."

What a memory!  He must get his vitamins from the Mega Memory Pharmacy Guy.

The walk to and from city hall also yielded me with some interesting things to photograph.  Here are two reasons why I like living in this region of Japan - also known as the Kinki region.
