The Secrets of Looking Beautiful & Poised

While enjoying a dinner of tofu and a store-bought salad consisting of kelp, okra, prawn, white radish, random magenta-coloured sea vegetable covered in an unidentifiable sourish sauce, I watched the most hilarious TV programme!

It was, in all seriousness, complete with a 3-person panel, a segment on 'The Secrets of Looking Beautiful and Poised'. I wish I had taped it. I'm not sure if they show these sorts of things in other Asian countries, but Japan, with its limited space, tends to result in people looking VERY closely at things.

Unfortunately I only saw part of 'The Secrets of Looking Beautiful and Poised' but what I did see covered:

  • 'In The Cafe'
  • 'On The Street'
  • 'Waiting For The Lights To Change'
how to signal a waitperson

'In The Cafe' demonstrated (using Lil Miss Perfectly Poised) the correct way to signal a waiter/waitress' attention. I tried making my hand into that same shape but I just felt like a mutant.

It also showed how to hold a coffee cup when drinking from it ("What DO you do with the other hand??"), how to position your hands when not drinking ("when you want to relax.."), and how to sit in your chair ("sit near the edge, with your legs positioned like so").

'On The Street' showed how to walk down the street, and how to do so if you are carrying one, or two bags ("putting one bag in each hand and walking down the street is dreadful to look at. what you should do is put both in one hand and carry them, or sling them over your shoulder."

'Waiting For The Lights' showed Lil Miss Princess Poised waiting for The Green Man looking like something out of a fashion catalogue. It was SO UN-NATURAL LOOKING! Kinda like when you try to eat a chocolate bar but want to show the name of it as you eat it.

I wonder if people will actually use these 'handy hints'.
