I received a You Have A Package Waiting For You notice in the mail yesterday.
Normally, in the SENDER part of the form, the postie fills in the name of the person who sent you the package.
Sometimes however, as in yesterday's case, the postie will find it easier just to substitute the sender's name with 外国, which means "foreign country".
This post is going to get a little ranty, but I'm allowed. It's my blog after all.
So in less than a week of the whole Foreigner Fingerprinting debacle, now some cities are wanting to place all their foreign residents on a register.
While government officials are growing ever increasingly paranoid of the foreign population, let's take a look at some headlines in this week's Japan news, shall we?
- Firefighters arrested for groping, taking photos up woman's skirt
- Police find bodies of woman, granddaughters
- Man stabs woman to death in Hokkaido
- Moriya says he burned diaries, notes when leaving Defense Ministry
- Life sentence stands for man who raped, murdered Taiwanese tourist
- 2 Kanto Gakuin students indicted for growing cannabis plants
In all cases, these are Japanese people committing these crimes. And ooh look, one even did one AGAINST A FOREIGNER. And ooh look, another perpetrator is a top government official.
Of course foreigners commit crimes too, so why isn't the government tackling crime in GENERAL, rather than choosing to target foreigners? "battling terrorism" has turned into "battling foreigner crime".
It is also ridiculous that the Tokyo governor wants to bring the 2016 Olympics to Tokyo. Doesn't he realise that will mean there will be hundreds of thousands of FOREIGNERS here? Possibly murdering, raping and taking bribes thus causing the downfall of Japan?
