Props to Bryony who scored us all free passes to this Oct. 15 event! I had NO idea it was on.
There were a whole host of countries participating, INCLUDING Malaysia and New Zealand. It was a funny feeling seeing my country of birth go against my country of upbringing. Amazingly, the smaller Malaysian guy beat the huge Polynesian dude he was up against. It was a bit weird that almost all of the wrestlers had NO IDEA what sumo protocol involves.
Mongolia had some kick-ass wrestlers. There was a small wrestler who was ALL muscle, versus this pulpy American guy. It was a good match.. very tense.. when the Mongolian guy pushed the bigger guy out, EVERYONE roared with approval!
Photos are a rather blurry, unfortunately. Here's the amusing crowd pleaser match of India versus Hungary. Poor Indian fella!
It was also the fifth world Shinsumo champs. Shinsumo is basically women's sumo. "Hot." said Nandy at first. Followed with a pause, and then: "Actually, maybe not hot."
Here are some pics of Netherlands vs. some other country. Bulgaria had one scary woman who I wouldn't wanna spill my drink on at a bar.

What's sumo protocol?
Just the customs involved in bowing etc. when you enter/leave the ring. Certain hand gestures etc.
